Werebabo Woreda Land Office recently convened a forum to present its budget plan for the 2018 fiscal
year and to assess the performance of the 2017 budget year.
During this forum, it was reported that the office had established a target to distribute second-level landholding certificates to 5,828 landholders for the 2017 budget year. This initiative included the measurement of plots, the digitization of data, and the distribution of land certificates to landholders. The office surpassed its initial target by distributing certificates to 8,290 individuals.
Furthermore, the forum addressed the critical issue of preventing illegal land encroachments. It was noted that 198.7 hectares of land were successfully reclaimed from 308 illegal encroachers. Despite the current security challenges that have been exploited for unlawful land grabbing, the office reaffirmed its commitment to holding all perpetrators accountable. Appropriate legal measures will be enforced once stability is restored.
Additionally, strategic directions were established for the 2018 budget year to rectify identified shortcomings from 2017, enhance overall performance, and address governance concerns raised by the community.
In conclusion, certificates and recognition awards were presented to Kebele experts and members of the land committee who exhibited exemplary performance during the 2017 fiscal year.
